How Can Pocket Survival Kits Save Your Life?

Pocket survival kits can really come in handy. When you need help in a hurry you will have the help you need to get by until you can get some real help. A survival kit can help you to literally stay alive in a dire situation.

You can find yourself in a situation where a survival kit is necessary when you are on a long drive or when you are camping, hiking, hunting, boating or any other outdoor activity that may leave you stranded and in need of help.

Survival kits are also becoming more and more popular for the home especially with the seriously broken economic situation.

Long Car Rides

If you plan a road trip with you family it is strongly suggested that you take along a survival kit with you. A survival kit can save your life! If you were to get stranded it would not be the first time that a family was stranded and needed some help to get through a day or two.

Every year in the winter months you hear horror stories of families that get stranded on the side of the road and try to leave for help and can't find any. Usually the story does not get any better. Unfortunately lives are lost for no reason, with a survival kit that can fit in the glove box can save your life.

Hiking

Hiking is another time that you can benefit from having a survival kit with you. Getting caught out in the woods with the proper gear to help you through is foolish when getting a pocket kit together is simple.

A few simple items and you will give yourself the advantages that you need to stay alive!

Fishing

Even if you are headed out on a bright sunny day you never know what mother nature has up her sleeve and you always need to be prepared. Being prepared means having a survival kit handy. A survival kit can help you "stay afloat" when you are in trouble.

Camping

Going camping is always fun until something happens that makes it not so much fun. If you are prepared you can withstand any problems and meet any troubles head on! You can easily save the day with the right tools!

Planning!

Of course nothing can ever replace proper planning. You have to plan to make sure your outdoor trip is successful. Nothing takes place of the proper planning. No matter what trip whether it is a day trip to the beach or a cross country road trip you need to make sure you plan out your trip and you need to make sure that you let someone know what the plans are just in case something goes wrong someone else will know where to find you!

The Kit

Your kit does not have to take up a lot of room to be effective. You can actually purchase a kit for a few dollars although it is easy to make your own kit. There are few categories that you need to consider:

Food
Shelter
Fire
Medical
Cutting
Signaling

You want to use a waterproof pouch a big food storage bag works well. Than you want to consider what goes in the bag. Food is important, of course you want your survival kit to be portable so energy bars and some trail mix works well.

Shelter can be something as simple as a folded up trash bag. Matches or a lighter will cover the fire. A small first aid kit. You will need a knife and finally something to be able to signal with. If you have room a flashlight is always nice to have, sterno's are also nice to have as well. A small note pad with a pen is also a good idea so you can leave notes behind if you have to leave where you are.

With these basic items you can stay alive for at least a few days. Always remember the rules of three you can live for three hours out in the elements if it is below freezing, three days without water, three weeks with out food if you have some shelter and some water. So shelter and water are always the first concerns. The right basic survival kit can keep you alive!
