Until now, the Audi Q3 small SUV has been imported into China from Europe. This is why the Q3 retails for roughly the same price as the larger Q5, which is built since 2009 at the Changchun plant for the local market.
However, production of the Q3 in the new Foshan plant will bring lower prices for Audi?s smallest SUV, as import duties will disappear. The China-made Audi Q3 will be priced from 280,000RMB (around ?35,300). The Audi Q3 made in Foshan is powered by the same 2.0-liter engine as the Q5, available with two power versions, 170 HP and 211 HP. The car is front-wheel drive as standard, with the option of ?quattro? all-wheel-drive available. The engine is mated to an 8-speed DGS gearbox.
The newly-built Foshan plant will also begin manufacturing the Audi A3 Sedan at the end of 2013. Audi plans to build 700,000 cars a year in China by 2015, both in Changchun and Foshan. Together with its local partner FAW, Audi will invest ?3 billion in China in the coming years.
